On February 13, 2025, Congressman Lawler highlighted his participation in the "7th Annual Dominicans on the Hill event," noting the vibrant Dominican community in the Lower Hudson Valley. He mentioned seeing Haverstraw Town Councilman Johnny Ortiz at the event. "Earlier this week, I joined the Dominican community for their 7th Annual Dominicans on the Hill event. We have a very vibrant Dominican community in the Lower Hudson Valley - and it was great to see Haverstraw Town Councilman Johnny Ortiz there!"

Later that day, he addressed concerns about USAID's expenditures, emphasizing Congress's role in ensuring taxpayer money is spent appropriately. He called for transparency following reports of USAID funding a non-profit involved with anti-Israel and antisemitic content.
