Senator Rob Rolison of the 39th District has announced the signing of Melanie's Law by the governor. The legislation, which Rolison co-sponsored, aims to address issues related to domestic violence and improve New York's criminal laws.

In a statement released following an official signing ceremony, Senator Rolison expressed his satisfaction with the new law. "Today is the culmination of years of advocacy and effort on behalf of victims of abuse," he said. He also highlighted that Sunday would have marked Melanie's birthday, adding significance to the timing of the legislation's passage.

The law intends to provide closure for victims' families and enhance protections for those affected by domestic violence. It seeks to close existing loopholes in the state's criminal justice system. Senator Rolison emphasized his gratitude for being able to support this initiative, stating, "As prime co-sponsor of Melanie's Law, I am grateful for the opportunity to help deliver this bill and stand up for victims of abuse across our state."
