Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt and members of the Senate Republican Conference are advocating for the inclusion of several legislative measures in response to a recent $259 billion budget proposal passed by Senate Democrats. The proposed bills, part of the "Liberate New York" 2025 Legislative Agenda, aim to provide relief to families and businesses burdened by high taxes and rising costs.

The focus is on alleviating the financial strain faced by New Yorkers due to increasing expenses in utilities, housing, and other essential services. Senator Rob Rolison has introduced one such measure, the Ratepayer Reduction Act (S1031). This bill emphasizes transparency and fairness by mandating that the Public Service Commission calculate the exact cost of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) for ratepayers.

Senator Rolison stated, “Across the Hudson Valley, families are making tough choices just to keep up with the rising cost of living from skyrocketing electric bills, higher grocery prices, and the added burden of congestion pricing. Hardworking families deserve real relief, not more uncertainty." He highlighted that his proposed legislation aims to make energy costs more transparent and predictable while offering a tax credit to households earning under $200,000.

The introduction of these bills underscores a push from Senate Republicans to address affordability issues impacting residents across New York State.
