Congressman Mike Lawler, who has been serving New York’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently shared a series of tweets addressing both local and national issues. The tweets reflect his involvement in community celebrations, tax policy stances, and legislative initiatives concerning student loans.

On November 24, 2024, Congressman Lawler congratulated Quisqueya Sport Club on its 47th anniversary. He expressed pride in joining the celebration and presenting a Congressional certificate to Osvaldo Reyes for his service as the first Dominican in charge of the Department of Public Works for the Village of Haverstraw. "Congratulations to Quisqueya Sport Club on 47 years! We were proud to join the celebration and present a Congressional certificate to Osvaldo Reyes in recognition of his service as the first Dominican in charge of the Department of Public Works for the Village of Haverstraw."

Later that day, Lawler voiced concerns over the SALT cap's impact on Hudson Valley families. He stated his opposition to any tax bill that does not lift this cap. "The SALT cap is hurting Hudson Valley families and it must be lifted. That's why I won't support a tax bill that doesn't lift the cap."

On November 25, 2024, Congressman Lawler introduced his new legislative proposal aimed at reducing federal student loan interest rates. His Affordable Loans for Students Act proposes capping these rates at one percent. He also invited public opinion through a survey on this matter. "My new bill, the Affordable Loans for Students Act, will lower the interest rate on federal student loans to one percent. Do you support capping student loan interest? Take my survey."
