The Dutchess County Commission on Human Rights is organizing virtual Bystander Intervention Training sessions throughout October and November. These sessions aim to address harassment and promote resilience in challenging situations. The commission has collaborated with Right to Be, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending harassment through bystander intervention training, storytelling, and grassroots efforts. The trainings are free and interactive, featuring practice scenarios for safe intervention.

County Executive Sue Serino commented, “Whether online or in person, in Dutchess County, we know the value of kindness and respect. These trainings are a great way for us to help support each other and feel confident in our ability to help intervene to stop harassment if we see it. We are grateful to the Commission on Human Rights for their dedication to bringing trainings like this to Dutchess County and encouraging tolerance and acceptance within our community.”

Participants must register online at dutchessny.gov/HumanRights to attend any of the three sessions. Upon registration, attendees will receive an email with instructions on joining the event.

The session schedule includes:

- Noon-1:30pm Wednesday, October 9

- 7-8:30pm Thursday, November 14

- "Bystander Intervention to Stop Online Harassment" focuses on supporting victims of online abuse and targets hate against people of color and the LGBTQ+ community.
