Senator Rob Rolison has reached out to the Acting Commissioner of the Social Security Administration (SSA) concerning the temporary closure of the Poughkeepsie office for renovations. The closure is scheduled to begin on January 30, 2025, with a reopening date not yet announced. During this period, residents are directed to seek services at the Middletown SSA Office.

In his letter dated January 23, 2025, Senator Rolison expressed disappointment about the decision affecting New York State Senate District 39. He emphasized that "this office and its dedicated staff serve as a critical resource for the residents of the Hudson Valley," providing necessary support to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

The senator criticized the arrangement as "unacceptable" and highlighted the challenges faced by residents who must travel nearly an hour to access services in Middletown. He described this expectation as lacking empathy and disregarding SSA's mission to provide equitable and efficient care.

Rolison urged SSA to present a detailed plan ensuring service continuity for Poughkeepsie residents during the closure. He called for expanded virtual or remote services and alternative in-person options that do not require unreasonable travel.

"I look forward to your prompt attention to this matter," Rolison concluded, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted access to Social Security services for Hudson Valley residents.
