Household Hazardous Waste Disposal & Electronics Recycling Event to be Held

The Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste Management is set to host its next Household Hazardous Waste Disposal & Electronics Recycling Event on Saturday, June 1st. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Dutchess County of Public Works Facility in Poughkeepsie, specifically located at 626 Dutchess Turnpike.

Residents of Dutchess County are exclusively invited to participate in this event, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Those planning to attend should anticipate wait times and are reminded that registration is capped at 400 households. Pre-registration is mandatory and comes with a $10 fee. County Executive Sue Serino stressed the importance of these events, stating, "A healthy, vital environment is important for Dutchess County’s children today and for future generations."

To secure a spot, residents can register online starting May 1st and pay the fee using a credit card. Alternatively, registration by check is an option by contacting (845) 463-6020. Checks should be made out to "Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance" and sent to the Division of Solid Waste Management.

The upcoming event marks the first of three scheduled Household Hazardous Waste Disposal & Electronics Recycling events for 2024 in Dutchess County. Attendees will have the opportunity to responsibly dispose of various household items that cannot be accommodated by regular recycling or garbage disposal methods. Accepted items include electronics like television sets, computer monitors, and more, as well as hazardous waste products such as paints, chemicals, and batteries.

Certain items such as latex or oil-based paints, ammunition, asbestos products, and medical waste are not permitted at the event. Detailed guidelines on acceptable and prohibited items can be found on the Dutchess County Division of Solid Waste Management's website.

Residents are encouraged to participate in these events to contribute to the preservation of the environment for current and future generations.
