Serino to Appoint New Director for Office of Probation and Community Corrections

Poughkeepsie — Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino has announced that Kathy McQuade will be appointed as the Director for the Office of Probation and Community Corrections, succeeding longtime Director Mary Ellen Still. McQuade, currently serving as Probation Supervisor, will assume the role pending confirmation by the Dutchess County Legislature in May.

Serino praised McQuade, stating, “With more than 30 years of experience in criminal justice and being highly respected throughout our community, Kathy McQuade is passionate about the safety and well-being of our entire community. With her collaborative leadership style, she will guide the Dutchess County Office of Probation and Community Correction toward continued success."

McQuade expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “It is an honor to be asked by County Executive Serino to lead the amazing team of women and men who serve in the Office of Probation and Community Corrections. I am truly humbled by this opportunity."

Having joined Dutchess County Government in 1997, McQuade has progressed through various roles within the department, showcasing her dedication to criminal justice. Her responsibilities have included coordinating probation officers’ daily coverage of county and local courts and monitoring population census at correctional facilities.

In her new position, McQuade will focus on promoting positive change in the lives of individuals under judicial supervision and enhancing community safety through the improvement of the criminal justice system. She will also work towards reducing offender recidivism and serving victims of crime.

The Dutchess County Office of Probation and Community Corrections is recognized for its effective supervision of defendants and probationers, employing evidence-based programs such as RESTART and RECHARGE to support justice-involved individuals. McQuade’s appointment is set to be confirmed by the Dutchess County Legislature in May.

Ms. McQuade expressed her commitment to upholding the established legacy of quality service and support within the Office of Probation and Community Corrections, while also aiming to expand outreach and partnerships within the community.

As the new Director, McQuade will lead the department in its mission to ensure community safety and provide support to those under judicial supervision.
