Poughkeepsie - The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced plans to replace a bridge on Stanford Road in the Village of Millbrook and Town of Washington. The bridge, situated over the East Branch Wappinger Creek near Dineen Road, is scheduled for replacement starting around May 1st. The primary goal of this project is to enhance the safety and stability of the bridge and the roadway it serves.
"During construction, Stanford Road will be closed at the bridge site with a detour posted along Franklin Avenue and Sharon Turnpike (State Route 44)," stated the Dutchess County Department of Public Works.
The project will involve the installation of a new, wider bridge equipped with four-foot shoulders, according to the DPW. The anticipated completion date for the project is this fall, at which point the road and bridge will be open to traffic.
"This section of Stanford Road averages approximately 725 vehicles per day," shared the Dutchess County Department of Public Works.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution and allocate extra time for their journeys during the construction period. The DPW advises drivers to adhere to posted speed limits, follow traffic advisory signs, and comply with the directions of flaggers in the vicinity of the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and fellow motorists.
"For more information, please contact the Dutchess County Department of Public Works’ Engineering Division at (845) 486-2925," added the DPW.
