With community feedback in mind, Dutchess County Public Transit (DCPT) is set to implement changes to its fixed routes starting January 4, 2025. These modifications aim to enhance service on popular routes, simplify navigation for riders, and boost overall system efficiency. A new mobile app and web-based tracking system will also improve the bus tracking and trip planning experience.
In recent months, DCPT staff engaged with passengers at various stops along the fixed routes, providing information about the upcoming schedule changes and introducing the SPOT mobile app. The revisions have been positively received by many users. Notable adjustments include increased frequency on the Route 9 corridor, express services from Poughkeepsie to Fishkill's Walmart and East Fishkill's Amazon facility, expanded local service for students at Dutchess Community College, and new Sunday operations for the Beacon Free Loop.
The route updates aim to streamline schedules by removing varied paths for each journey to reduce confusion among passengers. Furthermore, they address driver concerns by cutting split shifts and eliminating unpaid layover periods.
Following its launch in October as a replacement for DoubleMap, the SPOT app offers features such as saving favorite routes and stops while delivering real-time updates through push notifications. On-board equipment has been upgraded for improved location tracking and automated stop announcements. DCPT staff have assisted riders during this transition phase by addressing queries and troubleshooting issues related to the new app.
DCPT collaborated closely with ETA Transit throughout this period to ensure a smooth changeover of both apps and hardware for all users involved. In addition to direct engagement with passengers during outreach efforts—wherein questions were answered alongside technical support provided—these interactions facilitated an easier adaptation process overall.
Moreover, DCPT’s reservation-based Flex Service will extend its operational hours come January 4th when fixed-route modifications take effect; it will run from 8am until 5pm Monday through Friday offering curb-to-curb service across Dutchess County via prior booking arrangements made over phone calls placed at (845) 473-8424.
Detailed route modifications are as follows:
Routes A & B: Increased frequency provides hourly service; Route A gains eleven more trips while Route B adds eight additional journeys.
Route C: Bus now enters Hyde Park Mall plaza (Stop & Shop) within Hyde Park plus Bard College campus located inside Red Hook every time instead—removing low-ridership stops along Route 9G corridor entirely.
Route D: Extends eastern-most endpoint into Village Millbrook dropping Dover/Wassaic due lackluster ridership figures recorded there previously.
Route E: Offers three daily round trips between Poughkeepsie/Pawling spanning morning/midday/evening hours only—all other travels conclude Old Manchester Road situated LaGrange vicinity henceforth.
