Poughkeepsie – With Earth Day fast approaching on April 22nd, the Dutchess County Public Works (DPW) Highway Division is gearing up for a special initiative to celebrate the occasion. Beginning on Thursday, April 18th, and spanning April 19th, 22nd, and 23rd, DPW Highway crews will be focusing on litter cleanup along some of the county's busiest roads.
DPW Commissioner Robert Balkind expressed the department's dedication, stating, "Our crews work tirelessly no matter the season to maintain hundreds of miles of our Dutchess County highway system – from plowing to mowing, to this annual tradition of picking up garbage along busy roads – continuing Dutchess’ commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment."
The cleanup efforts will target various highly trafficked roadways in Dutchess County, including Saint Andrews Road, Overlook Road, Cream Street, Bulls Head Road, and many others across different municipalities.
In addition to the DPW's efforts, residents are encouraged to reach out to their local municipalities for information on trash pick-up or other clean-up opportunities. Those interested in contributing to keeping Dutchess County's roadways clean and scenic can also take part in the County's Adopt-A-Highway Program by contacting (845) 486-2925. Furthermore, the New York State Department of Transportation and local municipalities offer Adopt-A-Road programs for state and local roadways.
As the community bands together to ensure a cleaner environment for all to enjoy, the upcoming days of highway cleanup stand as a testament to Dutchess County's ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
