Poughkeepsie - The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced plans to replace a bridge on Old State Route 22 in the Town of Dover for safety and stability purposes.

The bridge, situated over the Swamp River between Jordyn Lane and Sherman Hill Road, will undergo reconstruction starting around April 18th, with completion expected by the end of 2024. The project aims to enhance safety and accommodate the increasing traffic flow on this route.

According to the DPW, the current bridge will be replaced with a wider structure featuring four-foot shoulders and widened travel lanes to match the roadway. Additionally, the new bridge will be elevated by approximately three feet to mitigate flooding risks caused by severe weather conditions.

With an average of 779 vehicles per day in this area, motorists are urged to plan for delays, exercise caution near the construction zone, follow detour instructions, and adhere to speed limits and traffic advisory signs to ensure the safety of all road users.

For further details, individuals can reach out to the Dutchess County Department of Public Works’ Engineering Division at (845) 486-2925.
