The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced work to replace two bridges on Salt Point Turnpike (CR-17) in the Town of Stanford is beginning this week. The bridges, located over the Willow Brook and the Wappinger Creek near the intersection of Meadowview Way, will be replaced to ensure the safety and stability of the bridges and roadway for motorists.

According to the announcement, "The project will replace the existing grid, steel decks on both bridges with a new, wider reinforced concrete structures that will include four-foot shoulders. The bridge closest to State Route 82 will also be raised approximately 2.5 feet to reduce risk of flooding and potential damage to the bridge and roadway due to the increasing intensity and frequency of major storms."

The initiative is part of Dutchess County's "Resilient Ways Forward" effort to adapt and strengthen infrastructure to reduce the adverse impacts from changing climate conditions. The section of the Salt Point Turnpike where the bridges are located averages approximately 918 vehicles per day.

During construction, the section of Salt Point Turnpike near the bridges will be closed, with a detour posted along the Turnpike, Route 82, and Clinton Corners Road (CR-13). The project is expected to be complete, with the road and bridges open to traffic by early 2025.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site and on the detour. They are also encouraged to obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers near the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.

For more information, individuals are urged to contact the Dutchess County Department of Public Works’ Engineering Division at (845) 486-2925.
