Poughkeepsie... The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced the commencement of work to replace a bridge on Ridge Road in the Town of Dover. The bridge, situated over the Mill River near the intersection of Cooperstown Road, is being replaced to guarantee the safety and stability of the bridge and roadway for motorists.
According to the DPW, "Ridge Road will remain open during the project as the new structure will be built adjacent to the existing bridge." The project includes installing temporary traffic signals and replacing the current structure with a new, wider bridge that will feature three-foot shoulders. Additionally, the surrounding roadway will be slightly straightened to enhance safety for motorists. The completion of the project is anticipated by the end of 2024, with the road and bridge reopening for traffic.
The DPW also highlighted that "This section of Ridge Road averages approximately 522 vehicles per day." As work progresses, motorists are urged to allocate extra time for their journeys and exercise caution near the construction site. They should adhere to posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and follow the instructions from flaggers in the vicinity of the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and fellow motorists.
