The Dutchess County Transportation Council (DCTC) is calling for community input to help develop a countywide Transportation Safety Action Plan. The plan aims to reduce crashes, particularly those resulting in fatalities and serious injuries, across all transportation modes in Dutchess County. To gather public feedback, the DCTC is conducting various outreach activities such as surveys, interviews, and meetings.
A virtual public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 19th, from noon to 1 p.m., where participants can discuss transportation safety issues and review an early analysis of crash data. Interested residents can register for the meeting at DutchessNY.gov/SafetyActionPlan.
Residents and visitors are also invited to share their insights through an online survey and interactive map that allows users to highlight specific locations with transportation safety concerns.
The Transportation Safety Action Plan will be developed in accordance with national and state best practices and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. It aims to provide road owners with essential data for enhancing safety measures and enable all 30 municipalities in Dutchess County to seek federal safety funding.
Key components of the plan include reviewing existing safety plans, analyzing crash data to identify trends and high-crash areas, recommending improvement measures, and launching an outreach campaign targeting municipalities and stakeholders. The plan will follow a holistic Safe System Approach designed to prevent crashes and minimize their impact.
