Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York’s 17th district, has been active on social media, sharing updates and opinions through a series of tweets. On December 2nd and 3rd, 2024, he tweeted about recognizing veterans in his district and expressed concerns regarding a presidential pardon.
On December 2, Congressman Lawler acknowledged the contributions of veterans during his "second annual NY-17 Veterans of the Year Ceremony." He noted that this year two ceremonies were held in Westchester and Rockland to honor more veterans. "I was honored to recognize so many veterans at my second annual NY-17 Veterans of the Year Ceremony. This year we held two ceremonies– one in Westchester and Rockland– so that we could honor more veterans across our district! Congratulations to these 44 heroes and thank you!"
Continuing on December 3, Lawler extended his congratulations to the honorees from the ceremony. He expressed gratitude for their service and sacrifice, reinforcing the community's collective respect for its veteran members. "Congratulations to each of our Veterans of the Year honorees. We are truly a community of heroes. To all who have served, I am forever grateful to you for your sacrifice and heroism."
Later on December 3, Congressman Lawler commented on President Biden's pardon of his son Hunter Biden. He critiqued the scope of the pardon which covers an eleven-year period including times under investigation by the House Oversight Committee. "What's most jarring about President Biden's pardon of his son is that he isn't just pardoning Hunter for the crimes of which he was convicted but over an eleven-year period, which covers the period during which the House Oversight Committee was investigating the family."
