Carmel High School had the highest enrollment among Putnam County schools, welcoming 1,365 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 57.8% of the Carmel High School's total enrollment.

Among the 22 schools in Putnam County, Mahopac High School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,258 students, while George Fischer Middle School welcomed 1,130 students and came in third in the 2022-23 school year.

Carmel High School is part of Carmel Central School District, which roughly covers six schools within Putnam County and has a main office in Mahopac.

In the previous school year, Carmel High School also had the highest number of students among Putnam County schools.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
