Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. (R,C-East Fishkill) has expressed approval of the recent decision to indefinitely postpone the planned congestion pricing measure. The measure, which was set to take effect in early summer, aimed to significantly increase tolls for individual vehicles entering certain areas of Manhattan.
Beephan, who has advocated for alternatives such as reduced pricing for essential workers commuting into New York City, welcomed the news. "Months after my proposal for a pricing exemption was turned down, I’m glad to see the governor has made the right decision – and has saved Hudson Valley commuters in the process," Beephan stated.
He further commented on the potential impact of the measure: "New York City is such a high-value economic sector, which is so integral to so many people that live within and outside of its city limits, that this congestion pricing proposal would have seriously hampered numerous travelers."
Beephan hopes this postponement will mark an end to discussions on similar proposals. "I am hoping this is the last time we have this conversation because this initial proposal left a lot to be desired," he added.
