Poughkeepsie has been awarded a $10 million grant as part of New York’s flagship downtown economic development program. This recognition names Poughkeepsie as this year’s Mid-Hudson regional winner.
State Senator Rob Robison, representing Poughkeepsie, expressed optimism about the grant's potential impact. “This investment is a game-changer for the city of Poughkeepsie, reinforcing the ongoing transformation into a dynamic and thriving downtown,” he stated. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts with local partners such as Mayor Flowers in strengthening the city's economy. "I have worked for years, with partners in the city like Mayor Flowers, to strengthen the city’s economy," he said. Robison emphasized that he has observed the dedication of local leaders and residents in building a more vibrant future, stating that "this funding will help build on that progress, bringing new opportunities for businesses, residents and visitors alike."
The Downtown Revitalization Initiative was launched in 2016 to accelerate and expand revitalization efforts across downtowns and neighborhoods throughout New York's 10 regions. Since its inception, the state has allocated $900 million to support projects in 89 communities through eight rounds of funding.
