Governor Hochul's recent State of the State address highlighted several pressing issues such as affordability, public safety, and transportation. These are areas that have been neglected by Albany for an extended period. In her speech, Governor Hochul proposed tax cuts, inflation relief, and expanded childcare access. However, some believe these proposals fall short of what New Yorkers need.
The governor's decision to delay and potentially halt the Cap-and-Invest proposal was seen as a positive move. The proposal had been viewed by some as harmful. Public safety measures were also addressed in the speech, with plans to fix discovery law loopholes, increase mental health treatment options, and enhance subway safety through increased police patrols.
There were also commitments made towards reducing commute times in Hudson Valley and upgrading train stations. These steps aim to improve transportation infrastructure in the state.
"I stand ready to work with the governor and my colleagues to deliver real solutions that lower costs, protect families, and create a stronger New York," said Beephan in response to the address.
