Wappingers Central School District had the highest enrollment among Dutchess County school districts, welcoming 10,423 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.4% of them were boys, and 48.6% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were white, making up 63.6% of Wappingers Central School District's total enrollment.

Among the 13 districts in Dutchess County, Arlington Central School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 7,861 students, while Poughkeepsie City School District welcomed 3,908 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Wappingers Central School District roughly covers schools within Dutchess County and has a main office in Hopewell Junction.

In the previous school year, Wappingers Central School District also had the highest number of students among Dutchess County districts.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
