Slater Rallies in Opposition of State Aid Cuts to Public Schools

Slater, a proud graduate from Yorktown High School and a father of two enrolled in public school, spoke out against Governor Hochul's proposed cuts in State aid to public schools. He stood alongside a bipartisan coalition, educators, school administrators, and NYSUT President Melinda Person in opposition of the Governor's education proposal.

In a statement, Slater expressed his concerns, stating, "As a parent and a product of New York's public school system, I understand the importance of adequate funding for our schools. These proposed cuts would be devastating for our children's education."

NYSUT President Melinda Person also voiced her opposition to the cuts, emphasizing the impact it would have on students and educators. She said, "Our public schools are already facing numerous challenges, and cutting State aid would only exacerbate the situation. We stand united in our fight against these harmful cuts."

The bipartisan coalition and school administrators present at the rally echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the need for continued support and investment in public education across New York State.

Governor Hochul's decision to redirect education funding to the MTA last year has sparked criticism and calls for transparency in budget allocations. Slater and other advocates are urging the Governor to reconsider the proposed cuts and prioritize the future of New York's students.

The opposition to the State aid cuts to public schools is gaining momentum, with stakeholders vowing to continue their advocacy efforts until a fair and equitable solution is reached.
