Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) and Sen. Rob Rolison recently invited the Putnam County cheerleading team to Albany to commemorate their 2023 NYS Championship win. The Putnam Valley Tigers secured their first-ever state championship in Binghamton on November 5, 2023, under the leadership of head coach Kelly Wilson, Captain Cameron, and principal of Putnam Valley High School Matt Mellow.
Slater expressed his admiration for the team, stating, “As a community, we are inspired by their accomplishment and commitment. I want to give huge congratulations to the team, coaches, parents and Putnam Valley community on this historic win. We were honored to celebrate them here in Albany and we can’t wait to continue to cheer them on this year.” Sen. Rob Rolison also commended the Tigers, saying, “Congratulations to the Tigers on their well-deserved championship...This stunning achievement not only brings pride to our community, but it inspires others to follow in the footsteps of these scholar-athletes.”
Congressman Mike Lawler, who joined in the celebration, shared, “It was an honor to join Senator Rolison, Assemblyman Slater, and the Tigers to celebrate their historic championship in Albany this week. Section 1 has some of the finest athletes in the entire state, and I’m proud to represent Putnam Valley and communities like it across the Hudson Valley.”
The event in Albany not only celebrated the victory of the Putnam Valley Tigers but also highlighted the dedication and talent that propelled them to success. With the support of their community and the guidance of their coaches, the team has set a high bar for future achievements, inspiring others to strive for greatness in both academics and athletics.
