Mayor Marc Nelson has announced he has directed the Development Department to extend the public comment period through February 23, 2023 for comments to the first draft of amendments to the city’s Zoning Code.

City officials are updating the code, in part, to streamline the number of districts and modernize the regulations to address development trends. The city has not updated its Zoning Code on a citywide scale in 40 years.

Mayor Nelson said, “An extensive public engagement process has been ongoing for some time now, with the help of our consultants czb, Inc. and Ingalls Planning & Design, and the most recent version of the draft document is available for review at our  PK4Keeps website. The city has been operating with a rather antiquated zoning code, which has had several patchwork updates over the years, and it is long past time for us to bring our local zoning up to date and to ensure it syncs with our recently adopted Comprehensive Plan.”

After extensive public outreach by the city, the Common Council recently approved a new Comprehensive Plan that charts a vision for future growth and development in the city and provides a blueprint for the Zoning Code.

Residents, property owners, businesses and other stakeholders are encouraged to continue to participate in the process by reviewing the proposed Zoning Code draft and submitting their comments online at the PK4Keeps website or by mail to: Development Department, City Hall, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., 12601.
