30.5% of Columbia County students met or exceeded Mathematics expectations in 2021-22 school year

Of the 2,371 students in Columbia County who took the 2021-22 Mathematics test, 19.6% met expectations and 10.9% did better than expected, according to the New York State Education Department.

In total, 30.5% of the students met or exceeded expections in Columbia County, a decrease of 4.5% compared to the previous school year.

Within the county, Ichabod Crane Elementary School students performed the best in Mathematics, with 48% of them considered proficient in the subject. Meanwhile, Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School students fared the worst, with only 14% passing the test.

The state registered an overall proficiency rate of 37% of students who met or exceeded expectations.

A 2021 report from the NYC Center for Innovation Through Data Intelligence found that outcomes for different racial and gender groups had improved since 2013. However, despite the improvements, significant gaps still persist, particularly among Black and Hispanic students.
