Assemblyman Matt Slater (R,C-Yorktown) presented a New York State Assembly proclamation to Summer Trails Day Camp in Somers on July 25, marking its addition to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. The camp was nominated by Slater for this recognition.

Summer Trails Day Camp was established in 1974 and has become known in the community for its focus on camping and youth development. Despite changes in ownership over the years, the camp has maintained its core values, long-term leadership, and a dedicated staff that continues to develop its programs and facilities.

The New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry is managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation. It recognizes businesses that have operated for at least half a century and have played a significant role in their communities’ history.

“Summer Trails says it best, it’s simply good old-fashioned camp fun,” said Slater. “There’s a reason this camp has been around for generations and why kids want to go back year after year. In today’s world, having fun is only half the battle. Parents also want to know their children are safe and in the care of a trusted, dedicated team. Summer Trails checks all those boxes, with a top-quality program and an exceptional staff.”

“I’m happy to have celebrated this milestone with the Summer Trails team and recognize their decades of dedication to youth development and community building,” Slater added.

Todd Seideman, Director of Summer Trails Day Camp, said: “Since its inception, Summer Trails Day Camp has focused on the mission of providing each child with an exciting camp experience that enables them to grow, build confidence, and create lifelong memories and friendships. Our picturesque 20-acre facility features a wildlife-filled natural pond, two heated swimming pools, nature trails, spacious ball fields, a zipline and challenge course, climbing wall, and much more to ensure activities for every child’s interest.”

“We are thrilled to be recognized for our commitment to the community and honored to be inducted into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry,” concluded Seideman.

Somers Town Supervisor Robert Scorrano stated: “Congratulations to Summer Trails Day Camp on 51 years of creating unforgettable summer memories and enriching the lives of campers throughout the area. Their dedication to youth development, outdoor education, and community values has made them a cornerstone of our region. We’re proud to have Summer Trails as part of the Somers family and grateful for their continued investment in the next generation.”

Slater has previously nominated other local businesses such as Boyd Artesian Well Company, Tompkins Community Bank, Stuart’s Farm and Kiwi Country Day Camp for inclusion on this registry.
