Senator Rob Rolison, the ranking member of the Senate Children & Families Committee, and Assemblyman Brian Maher recently held a press conference to address concerns about insufficient funding for the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP). The lawmakers said that current state funding levels are not meeting the needs of working families in the Hudson Valley, leaving many without access to affordable child care.
Senator Rolison issued a statement emphasizing the importance of child care support. “Child care is not a luxury—it’s a necessity for working families across the Hudson Valley. Right now, the Child Care Assistance Program is falling short, leaving parents without the reliable, affordable care they depend on to stay in the workforce and support their families. I’m proud to stand with Assemblymember Maher to shine a light on this crisis and to fight for the funding our communities need. We must do better—for our families, our children, and our local economy.”
The event highlighted growing concerns among both families and providers about gaps in child care funding. Local officials said that these shortfalls could affect workforce participation and place additional strain on community resources.
