On March 1st, seven students from Hudson SHS along with Red Hook’s Robotics team attended a presentation at Columbia Memorial Hospital that demonstrated how robots are used in the medical field and operating room.

Dr. Chris Gorczynksi, an orthopedic surgeon at CMH, presented a PowerPoint on hip and knee replacements and discussed how the use of robots aid doctors in performing these surgeries and the benefits of using them. For the presentation, the CMH staff also had one of their Mako SmartRobotics knee replacement robots present and demonstrated how they work.

After the presentation some students were given the opportunity to use the robot on an artificial knee that they had set up. #HudsonHasHeart
