Assemblyman Matt Slater and the Putnam Community Action Partnership (CAP) have concluded their third annual feminine hygiene drive in Putnam County. The initiative, which took place throughout May, aimed to support local women and teens by providing essential care products.
Residents of the 94th Assembly District participated by donating feminine hygiene products. These contributions will benefit more than 150 low-income females in the area.
“Our community steps up when it matters most,” said Slater. “Thanks to everyone who donated and to our local governments that hosted drop-off locations and of course to our friends at Putnam CAP. I’m proud to work with Putnam CAP to meet this critical need and continue advocating for policy changes that reflect the realities women face every day.”
Currently, feminine hygiene products are not eligible for purchase through Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which presents a challenge for many low-income families. In response, Slater has sponsored legislation (A.7655) that would allow SNAP benefits to cover menstrual products.
Marisa O’Leary, Director of Putnam CAP, commented on the importance of the drive: “By providing low-income girls and women with these essential supplies, we are not only addressing a critical health need but also breaking down barriers to education, employment and overall well-being. We are so grateful for Assemblyman Slater’s support in ensuring our community’s equitable access to feminine hygiene products.”
