Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York’s 17th district, has been active on social media sharing his legislative efforts and community engagements. His recent tweets cover a range of topics from honoring cultural heritage to participating in local events.
On May 4, 2025, Lawler expressed his admiration for James Earl Jones, noting the actor’s significant contribution to the Star Wars franchise. “May the 4th be with you! Nobody brought the Force to life quite like James Earl Jones, a constituent I was proud to represent in Congress. This Congress, I have reintroduced a bill to award him posthumously a Congressional Gold Medal!” Lawler aims to honor Jones with a Congressional Gold Medal through legislation he has reintroduced.
The following day, May 5, 2025, Lawler shared his involvement in local sports activities by attending an event organized by Haverstraw Little League. “My team was happy to join Haverstraw Little League for their opening day! Wishing a great season to all the teams.” This reflects his engagement with community events and support for youth sports.
Later that same day, Lawler commemorated the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla in 1862. He highlighted its historical significance and celebrated Mexican culture. “Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla in 1862. The day a small Mexican army triumphed over a French force. As we celebrate today, let’s honor the rich heritage, history, and contributions of Mexican culture—both past and present.”
Lawler has served as U.S. Congressman since replacing Mondaire Jones in 2023 after previously serving in the New York State Assembly from 2021 to 2022. Born in Suffern, New York in 1986 and currently residing in Pearl River, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Manhattan College obtained in 2009.
