Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York’s 17th district, recently took to social media to discuss his legislative efforts aimed at delivering tax relief and strengthening public services. Lawler has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2023 after replacing Mondaire Jones. Prior to this, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 2021 to 2022.

On May 22, 2025, Congressman Lawler announced on Twitter that he was “proud to deliver historic tax relief for NY-17 with the One Big Beautiful Bill,” which he stated prioritizes Hudson Valley families. “This morning, I was proud to deliver historic tax relief for NY-17 with the One Big Beautiful Bill. This legislation puts Hudson Valley families first.”

In another tweet posted on the same day, Lawler highlighted provisions in the bill aimed at protecting Medicaid by addressing inefficiencies and misuse of funds. He emphasized that the bill would eliminate “taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants” and prevent “scam artists and ineligible recipients” from misappropriating resources intended for seniors, single parents, and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD). “3. Protecting Medicaid: This bill strengthens Medicaid for seniors, single parents, and the I/DD community by eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Additionally, Congressman Lawler noted that the legislation includes measures to enhance border security by providing record levels of funding to Homeland Security. This funding is intended to curb human trafficking and drug flow while securing national borders. “2. Secures our Border: This bill provides Homeland Security with record levels of funding to stop the flow of human trafficking and drugs while securing our border.”

Mike Lawler was born in Suffern, New York in 1986 and currently resides in Pearl River. He graduated from Manhattan College in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
