Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York’s 17th district since 2023, has recently taken to social media to address several pressing issues. Born in Suffern, New York, in 1986 and a graduate of Manhattan College, Lawler is currently serving his constituents with a focus on fiscal responsibility and legislative reform.
On May 14, 2025, Congressman Lawler emphasized the importance of collaboration among his Republican colleagues. He stated that maintaining the majority requires cooperation with swing seats like his own. Lawler highlighted the significance of the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction as a priority for his district. He urged negotiation by stating “My Republican colleagues need to remember that maintaining the majority means they have to work together with swing seats like mine, where SALT is a priority. It’s time to negotiate; they need to pass the SALT, or I’m voting no.”
Later that day, Lawler announced his involvement in a bipartisan initiative aimed at modernizing outdated regulations. This effort seeks to broaden investment opportunities for Americans by allowing qualified individuals to invest through an SEC/FINRA certification process. He shared “I joined a bipartisan push to modernize outdated rules and open high-growth investment opportunities to more Americans allowing qualified individuals to invest by passing an SEC/FINRA certification.”
On May 15, 2025, Lawler addressed financial concerns related to Medicaid spending on illegal immigrants in New York. He expressed concern over sustainability issues associated with such expenditures and indicated ongoing efforts to address this matter. He remarked “In NY alone, 1.2 billion dollars from Medicaid is spent on illegal immigrants. That is unsustainable and we’re working to stop it.”
Mike Lawler has served in Congress since replacing Mondaire Jones in 2023 after previously serving in the New York State Assembly from 2021-2022.
