Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York’s 17th district, addressed several poignant topics of concern via social media recently. Lawler, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2023 after replacing his predecessor, Mondaire Jones, shared his thoughts on antisemitism and a memorial vigil he attended. Born in Suffern, New York, and a graduate of Manhattan College, Lawler continues to address pertinent issues affecting society.
On April 16, 2025, Lawler expressed his condemnation of an attempted attack on Governor Josh Shapiro, attributing it to antisemitism. “The attempted attack on Governor Josh Shapiro was driven by antisemitism – on Passover, no less. We must all commit ourselves to rooting antisemitism in every corner of our society,” Lawler stated, emphasizing a societal commitment to combating antisemitism.
Shortly after, on the same date, Lawler acknowledged the support of Representative John McGuire in cosponsoring critical legislation. “Thank you @RepJohnMcGuire for cosponsoring the Antisemitism Awareness Act. The House must swiftly pass this critical legislation!” Lawler tweeted, urging the House of Representatives to take action on the Antisemitism Awareness Act.
Later that day, Lawler reflected on a vigil attended by his team, held in honor of victims at the Jet Set nightclub in the Dominican Republic. He described it as an event of unity and tribute, “This weekend my team attended a vigil in honor of the victims of the Jet Set nightclub in the Dominican Republic. It was a beautiful gathering of solidarity and remembrance,” he recounted, highlighting the significance of the event.
Lawler, now 36 years old, resides in Pearl River and had previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2021 to 2022.
