Matt Slater, a New York State Assemblyman, expressed his support for local candidates and highlighted his record on tax policy in a series of tweets posted on November 1, 2025.
In one post at 2:30 p.m., Slater endorsed Mike Lugo for re-election to the Carmel Town Board, stating, “Mike Lugo works hard every day for Carmel residents and always does what’s right for his community. Proud to support his re-election to the Town Board”.
Later that afternoon at 3:57 p.m., Slater acknowledged an honor from a taxpayer advocacy group and described his legislative efforts to reduce taxes. He wrote, “Humbled to be recognized by the @TaxpayerAction. From cutting taxes as Yorktown Town Supervisor, to writing and passing legislation that paves the way for Putnam County’s largest property tax cut, I will always put taxpayers first.”
At 6:00 p.m., Slater voiced his support for another candidate running for office in Carmel, saying, “Robert Schanil is ready to serve Carmel with dedication! Happy to support his campaign for Town Board.”
Slater has previously served as Yorktown Town Supervisor before being elected to the New York State Assembly. During his tenure as supervisor and assemblyman, he has prioritized tax reduction measures at both the town and county levels.
