Matt Slater, a public official, shared updates on community events and commemorations through his Twitter account in January 2026.

On January 16, Slater participated in an initiative supporting military personnel. He wrote, “I joined students, teachers, and local officials today to take part in Operation Cupid, an annual initiative that sends care packages and handwritten cards to active-duty service members stationed around the world. Thank you to United for Troops for partnering with us to ensure https://t.co/X0AZTGVDW1”.

Two days later, on January 18, Slater attended a local tradition. He stated, “Great night at the Annual Beefsteak Dinner hosted by the Carmel Knights of Columbus—a terrific tradition celebrating faith, fellowship, and service.

It was especially meaningful to honor Jim O’Neill for his outstanding dedication to our community. His commitment to service truly https://t.co/pjPSlbuuLR“.

On January 19, Slater marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a message about Dr. King’s legacy. He posted, “Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact he had on our country. His belief in treating people with dignity and fairness is just as important today, more than 60 years after his I Have a Dream speech. How we treat one another is the difference between division https://t.co/xvo1kZ5Tbw”.

Operation Cupid is an annual program aimed at supporting U.S. military personnel by sending them care packages and messages from civilians each year around Valentine’s Day. The event mentioned by Slater highlights ongoing community efforts to recognize those serving abroad.

The Annual Beefsteak Dinner organized by the Carmel Knights of Columbus is a longstanding event in the area focused on fostering community spirit and recognizing individuals who contribute significantly through service.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech was delivered during the March on Washington in August 1963 and remains one of the most influential addresses advocating for civil rights and equality in American history.
