Matt Slater, a member of the New York State Assembly, used his social media platform to share updates on the start of the 2026 legislative session and outline his policy priorities for the year.

On January 8, 2026, Slater posted about returning to Albany for the new legislative session. He stated, “Yesterday, I was in the state Capitol, kicking off this year’s legislative session in Albany – the time of year where lawmakers are debating and voting on policies that affect everyday life for all New Yorkers. My focus remains on three things I think are most important: making https://t.co/5ilTqPCBzM”.

The following day, January 9, 2026, Slater highlighted his work since being elected in 2022. He wrote, “Since being elected to the Assembly in 2022, I have fought to strengthen law enforcement and reform a criminal justice system that too often puts our officers at risk. I introduced the No Parole for Cop Killers Act to ensure those who murder police officers remain behind bars https://t.co/dA4t1qdflT”.

Later that same day, Slater announced an agenda set by his conference. In his words: “Session is underway, and we’ve got a plan. This week, the Assembly Minority Conference unveiled Fight for New York—our agenda for the year ahead focused on making New York more affordable, safer, and more prosperous for all 20 million New Yorkers.
