Matt Slater, a member of the New York State Assembly, recently used his social media platform to highlight legislative efforts and local engagement, including support for Cold War veterans and calls for responsible budgeting.
On March 11, 2026, Slater posted: “Cold War veterans stood watch during one of the most uncertain periods in modern history. I’m proud to support legislation creating a New York State Cold War Commemorative Medal so these heroes finally receive the recognition they deserve for their service and sacrifice”.
The following day, March 12, he addressed concerns about state spending and affordability: “New Yorkers are already struggling with affordability. No one can say with a straight face that we’re tackling affordability by spending billions more. Anyone with common sense knows this is the wrong path forward. We need responsible budgeting that actually provides relief for”.
On March 13, Slater reflected on his week in Albany and meetings with constituents: “Another busy week in Albany. I had the opportunity to meet with constituents from across the Hudson Valley, including members of the Westchester County PBA, local teachers and students who came to advocate for the issues that matter most to them. We also passed legislation I”.
Slater’s advocacy for veterans aligns with his previous work supporting veteran honors and environmental designations (official biography). He has also supported local relief efforts for hurricane victims. Elected to the New York State Assembly in 2022 after serving as Yorktown town supervisor, Slater began his public service career in his hometown after graduating from Yorktown High School (official biography). He holds degrees from St. Anselm College (2008) and Marist College (2010), where he earned a Master of Public Administration (official biography). In addition to his legislative duties, Slater received a Presidential Direct Commission as an officer in the Navy Reserves in 2022 and serves with Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 8 (official biography). He resides in Yorktown with his wife and two children (official biography).
