Matt Slater, a public official and former member of the statewide Human Trafficking Task Force, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including hotel compliance with anti-trafficking laws, tobacco use prevention efforts, and a visit to Washington, D.C.
On November 18, 2025, Slater highlighted concerns regarding hotel compliance with state laws requiring the posting of human trafficking information. He stated: “Hotels are legally required to post lifesaving human trafficking information. News12’s investigation shows far too many aren’t. After serving on the statewide Human Trafficking Task Force, I’m calling for immediate follow-up from state agencies to ensure the education, training,” (November 18, 2025).
Two days later, on November 20, 2025, Slater turned his attention to public health by promoting smoking cessation efforts. He wrote: “Tobacco use is still our country’s leading preventable cause of disease and premature death. The Great American Smokeout encourages smokers to quit, or to make a plan to quit, today. Let’s support our family and friends in taking that step toward a healthier future.” (November 20, 2025).
Later that same day, Slater shared an update about his recent trip to Washington D.C., stating: “That’s a wrap on a busy and productive trip to Washington, D.C.! I had the opportunity to meet officials from the Department of Energy, Veterans Affairs, Health & Human Services, and Transportation, as well as members of the White House staff. I also toured the Capitol…” (November 20, 2025).
Slater’s comments come amid ongoing efforts in New York State to combat human trafficking through mandated awareness initiatives in hospitality settings. Additionally, national campaigns such as the Great American Smokeout continue their work encouraging Americans to quit smoking each November.
