Matt Slater, a member of the New York State Assembly and resident of Yorktown, recently addressed several community issues and events through his social media posts.
On March 19, 2026, Slater posted about state legislation, stating, “I joined my colleagues in calling to end New York’s bail laws, sanctuary laws and the Protect Our Courts Act. Our communities deserve laws that support law enforcement and not incentivize illegal immigration. When will enough be enough?”
The following day, on March 20, he responded to local tragedy in Yorktown with the message: “A devastating day for the Yorktown community with the news of the senseless death of Sheridan Gorman. Kellie and I are praying for her family during this deeply troubling time. We know our community will come together to support the Gorman Family and everyone who was lucky enough”.
Later on March 20, Slater acknowledged seasonal change by writing: “Spring has officially arrived! As the days get warmer and brighter, we look forward to a season of growth, renewal and spending more time outdoors across the Hudson Valley.”
Slater’s public service career began after being raised in Yorktown and graduating from Yorktown High School. He later completed his undergraduate studies at St. Anselm College in 2008 and earned a Master of Public Administration from Marist College in 2010 (official biography).
