Matt Slater, a member of the New York State Assembly and Navy Reserve officer, addressed several community and policy issues in a series of posts on April 13, 2026.
In a post commemorating Yom HaShoah, Slater stated: “On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews who were murdered in the Holocaust and honor the survivors who carry their stories forward. We must never forget the horrors of the past and remain steadfast in our commitment to stand against antisemitism, hatred and intolerance” (April 13, 2026).
Later that day, Slater discussed his participation in a roundtable focused on economic policy. He wrote: “Last week, I joined Congressman Mike Lawler and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent for a roundtable discussion on tackling the affordability crisis. We discussed policies like lifting the cap on SALT and eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security—measures aimed” (April 13, 2026).
In another post from April 13, Slater highlighted local environmental efforts: “It was great attending the Putnam County Land Trust Gala and to celebrate Judy Terlizzi for her years of dedicated service as President. Their work to protect our open spaces, preserve our natural beauty, and ensure future generations can enjoy all that makes Putnam County so”.
Slater has supported local relief efforts for hurricane victims and contributed to veteran honors as well as environmental designations (official biography). He received a Presidential Direct Commission as an officer in the Navy Reserves in 2022 and is assigned to Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 8. Raised in Yorktown where he now resides with his family, Slater began his public service career after graduating from Yorktown High School. He holds degrees from St. Anselm College (2008) and Marist College (2010). Elected to the New York State Assembly in 2022 after serving as Yorktown town supervisor since 2021, Slater continues active engagement with both state-level policy discussions and local community initiatives.
