Mahopac sees 37.4% jump in Medicaid Dental Services payments in 2024

In 2024, Medicaid providers in Mahopac submitted $4,922 in bills for services under the Dental Services category, data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medicaid Provider Spending database shows. That amount represented a 37.4% increase from 2023, when billing for the same services reached $3,582.

Medicaid, a joint federal and state health insurance program, provides coverage to low-income individuals and families, seniors, children, and those with disabilities, making it a major component of the U.S. health system. Funding is supplied collectively by both federal and state governments.

As Medicaid dollars come from taxpayers, fluctuations in local billing levels highlight how public health funds are distributed at the community level.

The “Dental Services” group includes a range of Medicaid-billed procedures defined according to standardized HCPCS and CPT code groupings. For this report, codes were assigned to a single service category using specific code prefixes and ranges, allowing analysts to group similar services, avoid double counting, and maintain accurate rankings over different periods.

While Medicaid expenditures increased across several categories, Dental Services ranked fifth by total payments in Mahopac for 2024.

Statewide in New York, Dental Services ranked 11th for total Medicaid payments that year.

Looking over the prior five years, Medicaid spending for Dental Services in Mahopac has risen by $306, or 6.6%. There were periods of notably faster growth, including strong year-over-year increases in 2023 and 2020.

Although spending on Dental Services was reported throughout Mahopac, payments were primarily concentrated in a small number of ZIP codes. The main ZIP code for these payments in 2024 was 10541, accounting for $4,922. This area made up 100% of Medicaid spending for Dental Services in the city during 2024.

Within the Dental Services group, most Medicaid payments were associated with a select set of billing codes.

To compare, while Medicaid payments for Dental Services in Mahopac went up 37.4% from 2023 to 2024, all Medicaid claim categories in the city rose by 11.8% over the same period.

Data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services shows that combined federal and state Medicaid spending reached approximately $871.7 billion for fiscal year 2023, making up about 18% of total national health spending—a substantial rise from roughly $613.5 billion in 2019 prior to COVID-19.

This marks nearly a 40% growth in just a few years, largely attributed to increases in enrollment and service use during and following the pandemic.

Federal budget legislation enacted during the Trump administration included substantial measures to scale back federal Medicaid contributions and revise the program’s structure. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” signed into law in 2025, is projected to reduce federal Medicaid outlays by more than $1 trillion over 10 years and introduces elements such as work requirements and higher cost-sharing that may decrease coverage and funding for some enrollees. These strategies are expected to transfer more financial responsibility to states and limit the federal share of Medicaid growth while the program continues to provide for tens of millions of Americans.
