Assemblyman Matt Slater of Yorktown has announced that local schools in Westchester will benefit from an increase in Foundation Aid and changes to the Regional Cost Index in the upcoming fiscal year. This development is expected to result in a 2% minimum increase in Foundation Aid, which will lead to more resources for teachers and additional opportunities for after-school programs. The funding boost will also allow schools to offer universal free school lunches.
Slater expressed his satisfaction with this outcome, stating, “It’s an incredibly important victory for our schools and our kids, because while increased funding isn’t the sole solution for our students to find success in school, the commitment of these funds makes the job of learning and teaching significantly easier on students and teachers, respectively.” He emphasized that this year’s education investment plan should be celebrated for providing stability for educators and students.
The assemblyman credited Westchester school superintendents for their role in achieving this outcome. Their expertise and feedback were instrumental in directing the investment where it was most needed. As a result, many students and teachers are set to benefit from these changes.
