Assemblyman Matt Slater is collaborating with Putnam Community Action Partnership (CAP) to organize a feminine hygiene drive. The initiative aims to provide essential products to women and teens in Putnam County, addressing a gap in access due to these items not being covered by Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“Last year, more than 250 items were collected and distributed to more than 200 women and teens in our community,” stated Slater. He emphasized the importance of community support in meeting this often-overlooked need.
Slater has proposed legislation (A.7655) that would allow SNAP benefits to cover menstrual products, aiming for equitable access for all women. “I’m incredibly grateful to all of the towns that are helping by offering accessible drop-off sites this May,” he added, encouraging donations from those who can contribute.
The drive will run throughout May, with drop-off bins available across the 94th Assembly District. A complete list of donation locations is available for residents wishing to participate.
