Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York’s 17th district, recently shared his views on tax relief and the state and local tax (SALT) cap via social media. Lawler has been serving in Congress since 2023 after replacing Mondaire Jones. He previously served in the New York State Assembly from 2021 to 2022.

On May 22, Lawler announced that “The cap on salt has quadrupled, a significant increase from the current $10,000 cap.” He emphasized that this development is beneficial for middle-class and working families in the Hudson Valley.

Later that day, he reiterated his commitment to advocating for financial relief by stating “New York families deserve tax relief. I will continue to fight until it’s delivered “

In another post on May 22, Lawler expressed pride in addressing the House before a vote regarding SALT cap adjustments. He stated: “Proud to have spoken before the House this morning, before our vote, in strong support of lifting the SALT cap and bringing much needed tax relief to middle class families of New York.”

Mike Lawler was born in Suffern, New York in 1986 and currently resides in Pearl River. He graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2009.
