Assemblyman Anil Beephan, Jr. has voiced his opposition to Central Hudson Gas & Electric’s proposed increase in electricity rates for Dutchess County. On April 24, 2025, Beephan sent a letter to the chair of the New York State Public Service Commission arguing against the rate hike, which would raise delivery costs by 8.6% and result in a 5.3% overall price increase.
Beephan stated, “At a time when families and small businesses are already struggling with the cost of living and operating, an 8.6% increase in electric delivery charges is unacceptable.” He urged the Public Service Commission to examine Central Hudson’s request closely and consider alternative solutions that focus on affordability.
The proposed rate increase has met with dissatisfaction from the community. Beephan emphasized the need to protect residents from potential financial strain during this economically uncertain period. “This fight is about protecting our community and making sure New York’s clean energy future doesn’t come at the expense of economic stability,” Beephan concluded.
