Assemblyman Matt Slater announced on March 17 that he will host a series of “Chat with Matt” events across his district on Saturday, March 21, giving residents the chance to discuss state and local issues directly with him.

The initiative aims to foster open dialogue between constituents and their elected officials. Slater said these conversations are important for ensuring that community voices are heard and represented in Albany and at home.

“Connecting with the people I represent is one of the most important parts of this job,” Slater said. “These ‘Chat with Matt’ events are a great way for residents to share their thoughts, ask questions and have a conversation about what’s happening in Albany and here at home.”

The schedule includes stops at Hill Blvd Diner in Yorktown at 10 a.m. with Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman; Mahopac VFW in Carmel at 11:30 a.m. with Carmel Councilman Robert Kearns; and Somers Library in Somers at 1 p.m. with Somers Supervisor Rob Scorrano and Councilwoman Gina Arena. Residents are encouraged to attend, enjoy coffee, and participate in discussions about local concerns. “These conversations help ensure the voices of our community are heard and represented,” Slater added.

Slater has supported relief efforts for hurricane victims, worked on veteran honors, and contributed to environmental designations according to his official biography. He received a Presidential Direct Commission as an officer in the Navy Reserves in 2022 and serves with Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 8 according to his official biography.

Slater resides in Yorktown with his wife and two children according to his official biography. He was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2022 after being reelected as Yorktown town supervisor in 2021 according to his official biography. Raised in Yorktown, he graduated from St. Anselm College in 2008 before earning a Master of Public Administration from Marist College in 2010 according to his official biography.

As communities continue facing various challenges, these events provide an opportunity for direct communication between residents and their representatives.
